Property Taxes and Assessment

The Yukon Government provides property assessment services for all properties within the municipality. Municipal properties are reassessed every other year. Property assessment notices are sent out in December of every year, showing the assessed value for both land and improvements. The Village of Haines Junction sets property tax rates by bylaw prior to April 15th each year. Property tax invoices for the calendar year are mailed out in May of each year with a due date of July 2nd.

2024 property tax rates:

  • Residential 1.15%
  • Non Residential 1.15%
  • Agricultural Limited 0.92%
  • Agricultural General 0.42%
  • Minimum Tax Levy $400.00

Residents that live at least 184 days of the calendar year on their property may be eligible for a Yukon Government Home Owners Grant. If you have lived at your property since January 1st of the current calendar year, the grant can be deducted at time of payment. The regular home owners grant is 50% of current taxes to a maximum of $450.00 and the seniors Home Owners Grant is 75% of current taxes to a maximum of $500.00.

Due date for 2024 Property Taxes: July 2, 2024. Payments received after this date are subject to a 10% late payment penalty. Interest charges will accrue until the taxes are paid. Payments may be made by cash, debit card or cheque (payable to Village of Haines Junction), online banking through CIBC, Bank of Montreal, TD Canada Trust or ScotiaBank (vendor ID -Haines Junction (Village) Tax, account number - tax notice roll number) or by Interac email transfer to finance@hainesjunction.ca . Please note that if you are paying online and are deducting the Homeowners’ Grant at the time of payment, the grant amount will remain outstanding until the signed application form is submitted to the Village office.
